'What curse?' Madden asks after Chiefs, Mahomes' Super Bowl win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — What curse?

That was Madden’s message on Sunday night after quarterback Patrick Mahomes helped lead the Kansas City Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years.

The “Madden curse” refers to athletes who have appeared on the cover suffering injuries during the year they were featured.

Mahomes was the eighth quarterback to appear on the Madden cover when "Madden NFL 20" was released in the summer of 2019.

After he dislocated his right kneecap earlier this season, forcing him to miss two games, some speculated that the so-called “Madden curse” had struck again.

But clearly, Mahomes doesn’t pay attention to superstition.

On Sunday, he became the first player to boast a regular-season MVP and Super Bowl MVP before the age of 25 in the NFL’s 100-year history.

Take that, Madden curse.
