KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wichita State men’s basketball coach Gregg Marshall resigned Tuesday amid an investigation into allegations of abuse.

His resignation takes effect immediately. The university agreed to a $7.75 million contract settlement to be paid over six years, according to a news release.

“This was a difficult decision, but one I feel was necessary for my family, the university and, most importantly, the student-athletes,” Marshall said in the release. “…I am incredibly proud of this men’s basketball program and all it has achieved over the past 14 years and am confident of its continued success.”

An internal investigation is underway into allegations that Marshall, the school's winningest coach, mistreated players, according to a report from KSN.

Last month, a former player said he was punched twice by Marshall in 2015, and another former player said he witnessed it, KSN reported.

Assistant coach Isaac Brown will serve as interim head coach.
