KC students send Obama a video message

A college campus; it may not be the place you'd expect to find a group of seven, eight and nine year olds, but on Presidents Day a couple dozen of them turned out with one purpose -- to tell President Barack Obama what's on their minds.

It was all part of a joint program between Metropolitan Community College Penn Valley and the Kansas City Public School system. This program is aimed at showing black and Latino kids the importance of speaking their opinions as well as showing them giving them a firsthand look at higher learning.

"It's so important for young boys, especially African American [and] Latino young men - who often time don't see positive images of themselves and just really wanting them to think aspirationally - that they can one day be Mr. President, whether it's the president of a local community college, or a nonprofit or the president of the United States," said Melissa Robinson, a Kansas City Public Schools board member.
