With luxe Two Light comes lane, parking closures

If you're going downtown anytime during the next 25 months, beware, changes are underway due to One Light's younger sibling, Two Light.

"There will be lane closures throughout," said Nick Benjamin, the executive director of the Power and Light District. "They will be minimized as the tower crane comes down during the end of construction, but there will be some lane closures for the entire 25-month period."

Construction began Monday, so Truman Road is only one lane between Grand Street and Walnut Street, and Walnut Street is down a lane in between Truman and 14th Street.

"We obviously will work with the city and all of our neighbors to make sure that any interference is minimized," explained Benjamin.

Also missing are 80 parking spaces that once belonged to the public parking lot that are now the site of the soon-to-be 24-story high rise.

"Exciting thing is that we are changing the skyline of downtown Kansas City and we are bringing another 450 residents to downtown, which will contribute to the growing momentum downtown and vibrancy of this great city," he said.

Changes, builders say, will be worth it, you just have to wait 25 months for it to happen.

While the area is losing 80 parking spaces just across the street from the Sprint Center, Two Light told 41 Action News that additional public parking spaces will be made available upon the completion of the high rise.

Two Light's official groundbreaking will be on March 14.

Construction on Three Light will begin before Two Light is complete. While that location is still to be determined, One Light told 41 Action News it will likely go go on the west side of the district adjacent to the Alamo Drafthouse.
