KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The left northbound lane on the Buck O’Neil bridge will be closed through the overnight hours until June 30.
MoDOT officials said the closure, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., shouldn’t impact the morning commute.
“We're performing some work on the median which requires a closure of the left lane, MoDOT area engineer Matt Killion said. “The median work is in anticipation of some other structural work that will take place underneath the bridge.”
The southbound lanes will remain closed until Dec. 1, where crews are already working beneath.

Killion said the project is on schedule.
“Upon completion of the bridge, we'll have new joints, so a smoother surface across the bridge joints,” Killion said. “Structural repairs will take place. We're repairing the cables along the bridge and some of the rails as well.”

Killion said those repairs will help keep the bridge in service over the next few years.
MoDOT engineers are working through an environmental study that will evaluate options for a new bridge in the future.
“This study's about a year long, year and a half long, and it's really intended to buy us time until we can identify funding for a new bridge and work on that partnership between us and the city of Kansas City,” Killion said.
