KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the Kansas City metropolitan area and to the north along the Iowa and Nebraska borders.

A broken line of thunderstorms has developed and will continue to slowly track south through the overnight hours.

A few storms will become severe with the main threats being damaging winds over 60 mph and the possibility of large hail. An isolated weak tornado is also not out of the question.

The storms are expected to be scattered by Saturday morning and hopefully bring some much-needed rain to the area.

While severe weather is not guaranteed, make sure you stay weather aware tonight. Tune in to 41 Action News at 10 p.m. for the latest updates and make sure you have the Storm Shield app downloaded to provide weather alerts for your location.
