9:30 AM Update:

There is a new band of light snow moving into the KC metro area and surrounding counties. An upper level storm has developed just northeast of KC, and a wave of energy is rotating around it and producing some light snow or flurries. There may be an additional dusting from this area of snow.

This band will move across KC later this morning and then it will end by early afternoon.

Good morning bloggers,

Snow began falling around 2:30 AM, and it isn't lasting that long. Here is a look at the 2:30 AM Radar:

The area of snow was growing, and also shifting east. We are expecting a dusting to 1" in many areas with a few spots getting more than 1" north and east where the area widens. I am waking up the dogs as they are sound asleep. I think they will enjoy the wake up call and walk!

At 3:20 AM, there is around one hour or so left in this storm, and it will likely end quickly. We had just under an inch on the Plaza with the snow about to end.

6:45 AM Radar:

6:45 AM Radar

The snow will be ending by 8 AM across our local region. Most areas had under 1" near Kansas City as this system moved fast and never really got organized. Some slick spots exist and this storm is heading into central and eastern Missouri which will have travel issues through the morning. This was only supposed to be a small system, and it was quite small. There will still be some slick spots out there on untreated surfaces.

The Next Storm:

Surface Forecast Valid Saturday

A wet storm will be arriving on Saturday with a 100% chance of rain. This storm actually looks like a much more efficient precipitation generating storm, but it will not be cold enough for snow.

Kansas City Weather Time-Line:

  • Today: Snow ending by 8 AM. There will be a few slick spots out there so give yourself some extra time. Light winds. High: 26°
  • Tonight: Cloudy and cold. Low: 21°
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny with light winds. High: 38°

Thank you for sharing in this weather experience and spending a few minutes of your day reading the Action Weather Blog. Watch out for those slick spots. Stay with 41 Action News & KSHB.com, and we will keep you advised. Have a great Wednesday.
