KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Geminids are considered to be one of the best meteor showers of the year, and we could get a good front row seat to view them.
These bright meteors will fly across the sky at a rate of up to 120 meteors per hour associated with a rocky object called 3200 Phaetheon, thought to be a Palladian asteriod.
The meteor shower will peak Wednesday evening/Thursday morning, December 13th into the 14th. The best viewing is expected between 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. and will be active all night.
The conditions in space are favorable for viewing with a late moon rise, however some clouds impact the views for Kansas City. A few clouds are possible Wednesday night with more cloud cover expected Thursday.
TIPS FOR VIEWING:
Find a comfortable spot and look up to the sky. No need to worry about what direction to look - they should be all across the sky. Go somewhere far away from the city lights, dress warmly and be sure to give yourself 20 to 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark.
FORECAST IN KC:
Partly cloudy - Low: 30°-35°
