KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A winter storm watch was issued for the Kansas City area ahead of possible snow and dangerous travel conditions by the end of the weekend.
The National Weather Service on Friday issued the winter storm watch from 6 a.m. Sunday to 9 p.m. Sunday. The watch includes areas along and north of Interstate 70.
A winter storm is expected to move into the region on Sunday morning. Rain will quickly transition to snow as temperatures dip below freezing, according to the 41 Action News weather team.
Total snow accumulations of 2 to 7 inches are possible. High wind gusts and blowing snow could reduce visibility to near whiteout conditions.
Because of the holiday weekend, traffic may be heavier on Sunday, which will likely create more challenges on the roads.
Those who don't have to drive on Sunday should stay off the roads, the NWS said in its advisory.
